Who we are:
Rabbi Tomer & Inbar Ben Harosh - we grew up in Israel and lived in Melbourne briefly before moving to Mullumbimby to serve the Jewish community. Together with our four children we run Chabad Byron Shire.
Our mission:
Chabad Byron Shire is one of over three and a half thousand Chabad institutions worldwide. Established in 2020, it strives to implement the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, by contributing towards the ultimate goal of a world of peace, goodness and Godliness.
This is accomplished by:

Strengthening Yiddishkeit within the community by encouraging the performance of individual acts of goodness and mitzvot.

Highlighting the goodness and spirituality that exists within each and every person, without exception.

Nurturing the thirst for a deeper knowledge of, and desire to experience genuine spirituality for those who wish to explore this within Judaism.

Creating a non-judgemental environment where Jews of all ages and backgrounds feel comfortable, accepted, and “at home” regardless of their level of observance or level of commitment, aiming to treat each person with equal respect and love.

Providing emotional, spiritual and material support to all, whenever possible, unconditionally

This is put into practice through our numerous services to the broader Jewish community throughout the Byron Shire, including:
- community celebrations of all the High Holidays;
- weekly Shabbat services on Fridays and Shabat, with kiddush & dinner/lunch for all who wish to join
- providing and organising Jewish services such as Bar-Mitzvah, bris, mezuzah installation;
- supplying kosher food to the community
- a wide array of high quality educational, outreach, crisis and welfare programmes for men, women and children of all ages.
