As the sun begins to set and the lights gently dim, a different rhythm settles over Byron Shire.
On Friday evenings, travelers, backpackers, and visitors from around the world gather around our Shabbat table. Some come for the prayers, some for inspiration, some to meet fellow travelers, and some simply because they are looking for a place that feels like home.
Everyone belongs. Everyone is welcome.
As the Kiddush cup is raised, strangers become friends and stories begin to flow. Around the table you'll find freshly baked challah, homemade salads full of color and flavor, a comforting soup just like Mum used to make, oven-roasted chicken with that unmistakable homemade taste, and sweet desserts that bring back memories of Friday nights around the family table.
Between courses, we share a meaningful thought from the weekly Torah portion, raise a l'chaim, sing together, and enjoy the warmth that makes Shabbat so special.
Shabbat Morning
The morning begins peacefully with coffee, cake, and a Chassidus class — timeless teachings and inspiring insights shared in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
By 10:00 AM, the synagogue begins to fill as families arrive together. Parents, children, visitors, and community members gather for prayers in a setting surrounded by towering trees, forest views, and the gentle sounds of birdsong.
At 11:00 AM, while the adults continue with the service, the Rebbetzin gathers the children for a special Parshah Story Time. Through stories, discussion, and imagination, children discover the weekly Torah portion and connect with the timeless stories that have shaped Jewish life for generations.
After the Torah reading and prayers, everyone gathers once again for a generous Kiddush and Shabbat lunch.
Stay a Little Longer
Many guests stay after lunch to sit with the Rabbi for an open conversation. Questions, ideas, life stories, and Torah often blend into discussions that continue long into the afternoon.
