Simchat Torah in Byron Shire
When the Whole Community Dances
A celebration where every Jew has a place in the circle.
The Joy of Torah
Our sages taught:
"Whoever has not seen the joy of the Water Drawing Ceremony has never seen joy in their life."
In Byron Shire, we sometimes feel that whoever has not experienced Simchat Torah here has not yet seen the unique joy that Torah can bring.
As the festival begins, the synagogue fills with music, laughter, dancing, and celebration. The Torah scrolls are lifted high, the singing begins, and the room quickly transforms into a circle of joy that draws everyone in.

One Circle, One People
There is something remarkable about Simchat Torah in Byron Shire.
On this night, distinctions seem to disappear. Some have celebrated Simchat Torah all their lives, while others may be experiencing it for the very first time. Some come to synagogue every week, while others may be entering a synagogue for the first time in years.
Yet when the Torah scrolls are carried through the room, everyone joins the circle.
With singing, dancing, heartfelt l'chaims, and melodies carried only by the voices of the community, people of all backgrounds and levels of Jewish experience celebrate together as one.
"The joy of Simchat Torah belongs to every Jew."
A Celebration That Lasts Two Days
At Chabad Byron Shire, the celebration begins on the eve of the festival with an open buffet, joyful dancing, heartfelt singing, and hakafot around the Torah.
The next morning, we gather once again to complete the annual cycle of Torah reading and immediately begin anew with Bereishit.
This powerful moment reminds us that Torah never ends. Every completion is also a new beginning.
The celebration continues with a festive barbecue, refreshments, friendship, and plenty of reasons to stay a little longer.
Through the Eyes of a Child
And then there are the children.
Sitting proudly on their parents' shoulders, waving colorful flags, reaching out to touch the Torah covers, and joining the dancing, they become part of something much bigger than themselves.
For many children, these moments become treasured memories that remain with them for a lifetime.

More Than a Holiday
In Byron Shire, Simchat Torah is more than a holiday.
It is a celebration of Jewish unity, Jewish continuity, and the eternal bond between the Jewish people and the Torah.
It is a night when strangers become friends, visitors become family, and every person finds a place in the circle.
